FISH ON

Deb & I love fishing and appreciate all of the opportunities afforded us here in Plumas County.  We are extremely thankful for all the dedication and hard work of the volunteers who have worked so diligently over the years to ensure fisherman have the unlimited opportunity. Each year the              Almanor Fishing Association http://www.almanorfishingassociation.org and  California Fish & Wildlife https://www.wildlife.ca.gov/  plant approximately 50,000 Rainbow Trout. The fish are brought in each fall and fed throughout the winter. As volunteers, Deb & I have been feeding each Monday and will continue to do so until the fish are released this Spring.

Lake Almanor is one of the largest man-made lakes in California it was built in 1914 to generate electricity and is owned by PG&E. Almanor has great year-round fishing, on any given day anglers can experience the Almanor Slam by catching a Rainbow, Brown, Salmon & Small Mouth Bass.

With thousands of miles of streams and hundreds of lakes in the Lassen National Forest, we love to JUST FISH. Rainbow Trout are the predominant fish. However, trophy German Brown’s, Mackinaw, King Salmon, Kokanee, Eagle Lake Trout, and Large and Smallmouth Bass are found in our major lakes.

Fly-Fishing is a sought-after sport in the Lake Almanor area. Local fly fishing guides are available to take you to the best fly-fishing spots around. Owner &  Guide, John Crotty will take you on a fishing adventure aboard his 20’Alumaweld or recommend a guide to meet your fishing desires.

If you are a fly fisherman you most certainly have heard of the Hex Hatch that takes place in June and July.  When conditions are right, Hexaginia (a giant mayfly) emerge at sunset to find eagerly awaiting Brown’s & Rainbows. Fishing can be spectacular and chaotic.  There is a great habitat at Geritol Cove for float tubers and bank fishermen at Canyon Dam a short one-mile drive from Quail Lodge. Fall and winter fishing at Lake Almanor can be fantastic.  It is not uncommon to catch a 5# trout on Almanor.
