ABOUT US- Owners Deb & John
(message from John)
On July 1, 2014 Deb Reynolds and I purchased the Quail Lodge located in Canyon Dam. Prior to becoming small business owners Deb & I were both employeed by the City of Fortuna, Fortuna is located on the West coast approx 100 miles South of the California/Oregon Border. Deb managed the River Lodge Conference Center and I was the Parks & Recreation Director. Our life changing decision to leave the community we grew up in was based upon our strong desire to operate our own business and more importantly our love for fishing, hiking, bicycling & all of the outdoor adventures beautiful Plumus County has to offer.
For the past twenty years we have been visiting Plumas & Lassen Counties fishing Eagle, Antelope, Bucks & Almanor Lakes. Deb & I love the area, people & weather, fall has been our favorite time of year, but we are looking forward to experiencing all four seasons in the mountains.
UPDATE 2018 Wow, four years ago Deb & I began our new life journey here in beautiful Plumas County. We have thoroughly enjoyed the challenges of living in the mountains and relished in the recreational opportunities this area has to offer. Over the past four plus years we have experienced weather ranging from 0 to 96 degrees, winds in excess of 50 mph, 4+ inches of rain in a 24 hour period. We have woke up to a foot of fresh snow on the ground, dealt with multiple day power outages and shoveled snow from roofs. We truly have experienced and lived in "Four Season's" to the fullest. It has been challenging and adventurous, but more importantly rewarding. Deb & I have been able to develop our business through countless hours of hard work, we have added an ADA kitchenette unit, replaced roofs, cleaned rooms, done countless loads of laundry, painted, landscaped and the list goes on. We have shared our journey with old friends, family and new friends. This business venture has allowed us the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people, our Firemen Hiram, Eric, Stan, Jeff, Barry & crew, PG& E employee's Gage, Brad S., Brad H. and staff, Father/son Bob & Mike S, Capt. Bob, Darrel & Dan, Tom & Paul, SIRS Group, Cal Harris and all his buddies; we have been truly blessed.
While we would not change any path of our journey we have missed our Grandchildren; Emma, 6 , Skylar 5 months, Madison 3 and Logan 8 months. We so miss not witnessing their daily achievements but, oh do we treasure sharing our mountain dream with them.
UPDATE 2019- We can't believe it. 5 years already. This past year flew by. Our longest winter yet, and even a shorter summer. We received over 100 inches of snow in February here at Quail Lodge and 200 inches for the season. Deb and I continue to support the Almanor Fishing Association and enjoy working with all of the volunteers that make AFA such an outstanding organization. We are proud to work with California Fish & Wildlife, Field of Dreams, PG&E, USFS, local guides and fishermen to provide fishing opportunities for Veterans and youth of Plumas County. In 2019 we assisted in Veteran Fishing Day. We just had our third annual and it was a grand success. We took 97 Veterans Fishing and had 49 Captains/boats volunteer for this event. The BBQ had more than 250 guests. It is one of our most up lifting days of the year.
We have added 2 generators to our property so our guests won't go without. They will automatically go on if the electricity is turned off for any reason. If this wasn't a task. Our good friend Cal came up from Lincoln and hooked up both generators.
A special thanks to all who have played a part in our successes. Deb, Max, Ali & I look forward to sharing our lodge, home and family with you all.
